What to Look Out for When Buying Ford Bronco Brake Harnesses?

Quality and Reliability

The main reasons why one would replace a brake harness on his/hers Ford Bronco is to make it more robust or to replace a brake harness that failed.

Therefore, it’s best to look for harnesses designed to endure all the stresses of off-roading which include moisture, impact protection, flexing, and heat exposure.

The best wires are made out of copper or copper alloy and are covered with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), Teflon, or other thermoplastic materials such as rubber or nylon.

It would also be a good idea to go for shielded harnesses designed to protect your system from electromagnetic interference or radio frequency interference.

Lastly, make sure that all of your connectors and terminals are also robust and able to withstand corrosion and all the other mishaps that can happen while driving.

OEM vs Aftermarket Brake Harnesses

You also need to decide whether you prefer an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) brake harness or an aftermarket option.

OEM harnesses are designed to match the specifications of the original equipment, offering a high level of compatibility and reliability which means that you are not essentially going to upgrade or downgrade anything.

As such, most people going with OEM harnesses are simply replacing faulty parts as there is no need to replace a functional OEM harness with another functional OEM harness.

Aftermarket options for your Ford Bronco may provide additional features or customization options, but buying these does require a bit of education on what you get with each specific unit.

Some of these are cheaper and inferior compared to OEM harnesses while others are better, but much more expensive.

Brake Harness Types

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that not all Ford Bronco brake harnesses are the same.

A brake pedal position sensor harness connects the brake pedal position sensor to the brake system module while a brake light harness connects the brake lights to the brake system module.

These may look similar, but it’s always a good idea to go for a brake harness that is specifically designed to serve a singular purpose.

The braking system of your Bronco also features ABS harnesses, trailer brake harnesses, wheel speed sensor harnesses, and parking brake harnesses, all of which communicate with the brake system module and are different in what they do.
